Dharma And The Sangha DVD
The
Dharma And The Sangha is a dharma talk offered to the Orlando Mindfulness
Community by Dharmacharya Ian Prattis, on December 16, 2006. A DVD
was made of the talk by film producer Bob Allen, co-facilitator with his
wife Pam of the Fish Lake Sangha in Orlando, Florida. Bob has his
own film company - i.d.e.a.s. www.integrityarts.com - and did a wonderful
job of filming, editing, and placing the dharma talk within the beautiful
location of Fish Lake and the wonderful setting of Thich Nhat Hanh’s tradition.

The
Dharma And The Sangha begins with the conditions leading to the Buddha’s
first dharma talk and the intention to offer the dharma through appropriate
vessels that are skilfull instruments to guide understanding – with a clear
emphasis that the Raft is not the Shore. The video ends with a story
about levels of deep listening inspired by an adventure Ian and his son
experienced in the drug underworld of Glasgow, Scotland. In between,
a tapestry unfolds of skilfully creating sanghas as the masterpiece of
your life in the manner of the Buddha, so that we may touch the original
artist of the masterpiece through sangha building. The emphasis is
on creating sangha cornerstones and the concrete example of Pine Gate Sangha
and Friends for Peace in Ottawa is a reference point for activism based
on sangha cornerstones. The Five skandhas, instruments of practise,
the Historical and Ultimate Dimensions and their interpenetration are presented
so that we may touch the significance of space beyond space, time beyond
time. May your sanghas enjoy this humble offering.
